6.0 Lanes and Switches:

The HPR System requires at least one Main Grid Rail in each direction. Where necessary, multiple lanes in each direction may be constructed. Eight Grid lanes can be constructed above the same space occupied by 4 highway lanes.

6.2Grid Approach Lane:

As a Grid compliant vehicle enters the HPR System, after a series of electrical checks of mechanical and communications components has been successfully completed, a Grid vehicle will accelerate on the Grid Approach Rail at a speed calculated to provide a safe merge with any traffic on the Main Grid Rail.

At the end of the Grid Approach Lane, a switch, similar in nature to a railway switch, will automatically, and almost instantaneously, open and close, to allow an HPR vehicle (or several HPR vehicles) to join the Main Grid Rail. Exiting the Grid occurs by way of the reverse procedure.
