Inventor Biographical Information: Thomas Pumpelly

Mr. Pumpelly is a native of Northern Virginia who graduated from Lynchburg College with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 1970. He is married with four children and served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1966 through 1972, receiving an Honorable Discharge. In 1971, Mr. Pumpelly founded NTW, Incorporated (now known as NTB), which he developed into the largest privately owned chain of tire and automotive stores in the United States before selling the Company to a component of Sears Roebuck in 1988.

In 1988, Mr. Pumpelly formed Pumpelly Capital Investments, Inc., also known as PCI Financial Group which continues today as a holding company for numerous business venues including real estate holdings, equity investments, property management and consulting.

Mr. Pumpelly currently serves on the Boards of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and the Washington Airports Task Force and is a past member of the Lynchburg College Board. In 2010, he was inducted into the Tire Industry Hall of fame and in 2004, he received the Dr. Torrey Brown award from the Chesapeake Bay Trust in connection with his efforts towards preserving the Chesapeake watershead.

An active pilot since 1968, Mr. Pumpelly holds a Commercial, Multi, Instrument rating in both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters with a Lear Jet Type Rating.
